I'm back from France - from which some rather nasty habits seem to have been exported to Britain. Luckily - the fuel blockades here do now appear to be over.
Anyway - back to shell32.dll
I have now managed to uninstall IE5/install IE4/install IE5 successfully - will the newer version of the shell32.dll remaining.
For info - what I did was as follows :
1. Used Add/Remove programs to removeIE5 - and chose to restore previous version of IE.
After this stage - IE4 was running - but shell32.dll was still Version 4.00 (1,251KB 11/8/99). However I could create the "shell.application" object ok.
2. I then ran ie4setup.exe from my Visual studio disk 1 and chose the Active Desktop option (I'm not sure if I needed to do this - I hadn't got Active Desktop installed before)
After this stage - IE4 SP1 was running - shell32.dll was Version 4.72 3110.6 (1,650KB 5/8/98). I could create the "shell.application" object ok.
3. Finally, I ran ie5setup.exe from VS SP3 disk.
After this stage, shell32.dll was unchanged from step 2 and I could still create "shell.application" - hooray !!
Hope this info is of some use
Regards
Anna
