FYI to all those interested:
I've looked into many of these products. Based on what I've discovered in the past they generally suffer from one of two thing: Detailed info, or accuracy of current info. The VIN number holds details about everything in or on the car...what options it had, what color it was inside and out, etc. The problem is ammasing the data. The database I've developed for this purpose actually requires 3 to 5 full time people to maintain the data. These teeny-weene 5mb apps are not going to hold all this information, not even close. I guess it boils down to how much info you really want. If you just want the make and model of the vin..that's one thing..if you want to know it was red/black with a sunroof and the details of the options it came with, that's another.
