FWIW, you can connect to a drive on the Internet just like you do to your local file server (NET USE D: \\remarkable-systems\drivec) and access it just like a drive on your server. It is slow to first connect and probably a very slow way to connect to your data, but it's cheap and easy.

I'm not suggesting you use this, but under certain, limited circumstances it could work.
