I know that MS claimed this, and that I've used stored procedures in a DBC created under VFP5 that run from both VFP5 and VFP6 apps as long as I make changes to the DBC's triggers and SPs through VFP5. That's the limit of the checking I've seen first-hand. Porting complete apps into VFP6 mostly went smoothly; there were issues regarding ActiveX versions, older versions of Win95 and WinNT required installation of Service Packs and OS version updates (the updates are available for free by download from the Internet, and can be redistributed with your app, but the files are large, there's no provision in VFP's Setup Wizard to control their installation when needed, and usually force the system to reboot; applying NT's Service Packs requires administrative privileges. Installing the runtime is not a dumb copy and register; you may need to update components currently loaded by Windows using delayed copy and registration, and deliver an uninstall, both issues addressed by Setup Wizard or VSI, or any of the decent install generators.

I'd recommend recompiling the app under VFP6 SP3 or SP4 and redistribute the whole thing; the full runtime requires installation of the runtime files with some sort of install package IAC on each workstation, so why not make sure the runtime and executable sync; if any error, new or old, shows, and you report this setup, the first thing we're gonna tell you is... ;-)
