Check the help file for the AppointmentItem object and look at all the properties and methods listed. You might see if setting the ResponseRequested property to .t. will turn it into a request. The Assign method does not exist for Appointment Items as it does with Tasks. (I don't have time now to test this for you, but that's what I would try...)
