The VFP Marketing folks at Microsoft decided that, for the time being, the purpose of the awards (highlighting successful VFP projects) had been served. The awards are a major effort to organize, involving a lot of time and energy and a fair amount of expense.

The implication of course is that at this time, it is not worth the effort to organize, the energy, the time and expense in showcasing successful VFP projects. Somehow, I have a hard time believing that is the spin the MS would want to put out for public consumption...

I saw these awards as a valuable part of Devcon. Showing what folks are doing in real-world situations is perhaps one of the most valuable sources of information on what a tool can accomplish. As a judge from last year, I had no problem in volunteering my time for this event for that reason...

The sad thing is that the awards sort of died on the vine. There was no announcement the excellence awards were not going to held this year. A sad situation indeed. Then again, there was no real discussion here. Maybe there is no interest. That too is sad...

If the product is not going to be promoted outside the community, at least it could be promoted inside the community...< s >....

The issue speaks volumes......

Thanks,
