Look, as much as I like to return to JVP the grief he gives out <g> I do in fact think he has a valid point. I just think he draws some conclusions that are a tad to pessimistic vis a vis VFP.

The only constant is change - in software particularly.

About 7-8 years ago I was hollering on Compu$erve about how the ability for products to interact via DDE & OLE was going to greatly raise the entry level for VFP programmers. I don't know if John remembers this but I certainly do. That has now happened and with OLE DB it will only become more intense IMO.

Having said that, I also do not think that VFP is going to 'go away' at all in the near (3-4-8 years?) future. In that same time VB will also not be the same as today's product. VFP is still an extremely viable product in MSFT's panoply of products. As big as VB? Nahh. But, it does have a place.

Middle tier is where I place my bet.

Again, I think that means not a whole lot more than changing the manner we do what we do. What we do will essentially never go away at all.
