>Have not been to Florida since my Air Force days and went through Hurricane Donna in 1961. I was at Orlando Air Force Base and the eye went through Orlando. The local radio station said winds were 20 miles an hour. I called them to notify the station and public that Orlando Air Force Base had clocked winds in excess of 120 knots. The station manager would not believe me until 20 minutes later when his antenna tower blew down and they were off the air. At that time the Hurricane Season ended on September 30th. Do you see what progress we have made? November 30th!

Tom,
I grew up in St. Petersburg and then lived in the DeLand/Daytona area for five years. My brothers live in Orlando. I guess after a bunch of late storms the Weather Service decided Mother Nature had extended the hurricane season. We're getting rain right now in Atlanta from Tropical Storm Helene as it crosses the Florida panhandle in Georgia. Now Isaac is on it's way.
I left Florida in August 1980 and have only been back for visits. Do I miss it? Sometimes. I especially like north central Florida. But I don't miss the heat!
David.
