I haven't seen anything advertised for Java around here. Every so often I'd look at the classifieds and Jobnet just to see what was around. Mostly what I saw is VB and C++.

That would be worth doing. I've heard that VB needs something to talk to for data since it doesn't have its own. If that's true, then learning the stuff it talks to would be a good addition.
