I too, have recently gotton into VB due to a lack of VFP demand here in Halifax. I have really only purchased one book:
Visual Basic 6 - How to Program, Dietel & Dietel (T. R. Nietro)
It's not too bad at all, and has explained a lot of things to me. I picked it up because its by the same authors of a couple of C and C++ text books I had in university. I recall those being very good. The rest you can pick up free at MSDN and DevX.com, to name a few good sources.
One last piece of advice...when it comes to VB, listen to John Petersen...he's definately the VB guru around here...
