Pablo,

<g>

Thanks for jumping in!!

Well, the Can-Am cars actually were not 'straight line accelleration' only cars, though they did indeed attempt to put as much horsepower onto a frame as possible. Usually 7-800 HP!! They were built for the turns and curves as well though and had to be able to brake quickly. I think their approach was 'typically' American in that they attempted to solve what really is a finesse issue with power and muscle.

A lot of the reason for racecars is to test new technologies. Here in America the Can-Ams represented the 'big engine' way of thinking. When the gasoline shortage hit us in 1973 I think that is when the Can-Ams started to decline.

Europe has always had much higher gasoline proces and I'd think that this is why they tend to have smaller, more efficient automobiles. This naturally shows in the kinds of race cars constructed.

I hope you understand that I was tossing out some good-natured teasing regarding the F1 cars. I really do enjoy them as much as the Can-Ams....

Just some friendly competition.. <g>

Best,

DD

>>I'd put up a Can-AM car against a F1 car any day of the week. When I was a lad we used to go watch the McClaren Brothers chew up the old Riverside International Raceway.. They also had an automatic that kicked butt... <g>
>>
>>Don't get me wrong.. F1 is alright but those cars are so tiny... <g>

>Think that Can-AM and NASCAR cars are not so like the usual cars. The evolutions of F1 cars are well trasladed to normal cars, not like Can-AM.
>
>In how many space can a Can-AM or NASCAR car can stop? Think that a F1 car can stop in the third part of space of any of your stuff.
>
>In Europe, we also say "speed is not always, you also must stop in the curves", your speed would fit for those easy circuit rings, this is normal? I think not, well you also can put a rocket engine to your cars and an autopilot feature, this will gave you more speed.

>F1 are "real" high powered cars, not like prototypes or any "strange" stuff.

>Well that's my oppinion. :)
Best,

DD
