another way to look at this might be that unlicensed users will become licensed when they need help/support and have to contact you. Registration of your package provides them with some additional benefit.
I think over zealous copy protection isn't always helpful to the user who may have a legitimate reason to install say on more than one PC (home and work maybye) or re installation after a hardware problem etc.
