>All I want is the option to compile to the CLR. It would go something like this. I get full VFP with backwards compatibility with a normal compile otherwise I can compile to the CLR which will have some restrictions (and some benefits)
YOu have that option, use VFP for the non-CLR and VB for CLR.
>The failure of the VFP community to insist and the MS Foxteam to develop to this standard may be as significant as WordPerfect deciding that Windows was a passing fad. Was DOS more stable, yes. Did a DOS wordprocessor run faster on a modest computer, yes. Was everyone else moving to Windows, yes.
Yes, but DOS was harder to use for a basic user, and the features gained when going to a 32 bit OS were enormous, all benefical to the user.
>What if someone could download your tiny VFP exe and run it right away without having to download a 12meg runtime.
I woulnd't sacrafice speed, stability, system resources and UI for this. Niether would a user. IAC, pubic Internet Connection speed is making 12mb seem insignifacant. And we've talked about this before, MS could have come up with better solutions than .NET to solve somethign like this, but it wouldn't make them as much money.
