Duh. Call me BrainDead for I surely am....I forgot about ListIndex until just after I responded.

In the Activate event of the page I checked the (primary) business object IsNewAndEmpty. If property returned a true, set the ListIndex to 1 and continued on. Default values display as desired. Now to make it work with a label.caption vice a textbox.refresh.
