The purpose of a LEFT join is to get all records from the "left" table, and any matching information from the "right" one. However, if I specify a where clause on the right table to eliminate some data, there's a chance that no record from the left table shows up in the results. In that case, what I want is to get the "left" record and .null. data from the right, but the results table just excludes them. Why is that?
