MS knows about this and has a KB article (Q268062). The interesting thing is that rather than fixing MDAC_TYP, there's another program (Rem_dlg.inf) that you execute to remove the key.

BTW, this came up to-day and in searching the UT, I found this post. One thing we noted was that on a PII 350 or higher, the problem is unnoticable.
