IMHO, this has been perpetuated since the few initial versions of ADO. But ADO works just fine with VFP too. If you think about the events that ADO raises then it can be said that it works better with VB, at least natively. Adding VFPCOM to the mix allows you to do that in VFP.

FWIW, not being able to bind to ADO events hasn't been an issue at all for me. But, this is true for my own little development tirades.. :) If somebody has any known issues that obviously I don't know about I would like to hear it.
