This may be way off the wall but I had a similar problem with my Sony HotBurn software (Rick, you think Adaptec is bad - try this one). It turned out that it was a setting somewhere about showing system files and the stupid software kept thinking that .SC? files were system files (Maybe because SCT files are Windows Script components).
