Because it would be too easy. :)
Seriously, the main idea is to provide the way so any grid could have row highlighting (and some other useful functionality) with minimal changes to the grid itself (probablyone line of code in the grid is as close to "minimal", as we can get :).
Grid HighLighter allows to add this functionality to existing applications easiy, including VFP 3 applications which are still out there. That's why I prefer to create classes which stay outside and just modify the grid behavior.
Another reason is that if you already using some framework grid class with some other built-in functionality, you will not want to change your grids to another class just to get the row highlighting. Of course, it would be better if the grid just had native row highlighting (I do not mean the almost useless version of it which is already there), but the functionality of Grid HighLighter is not limited to that.
