Well said. I think what gets me is the 'sky is falling' nonsense. My bet is that most, if not all, developers simply want to get good enough at their chosen craft in order to gain and maintain their chosen lifestyle. Not much more than that actually.

Or, to quote earlier posts (by JVP I believe): "You are not your development tool." If Microsoft announced tomorrow that VFP would be discontinued after 7.0, most good VFP programmers would be making a fine living, and probably making great apps, in another language by 2002. (And that's the WORST case secnario, which I don't for a minute believe will happen). Maybe we wouldn't like the new language as much, maybe it wouldn't be as good technically, but good programmers are good programmers.

I have several graphic artist friends who in the last five years have taken jobs that require them to work more on PC platforms than they might like. They much prefer Macs, they make a convincing argument that the Mac platform is better for their work, but they are still pulling down fine salaries and designing art for major ad campaigns.

"You are not your development tool."
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. - Bertrand Russell
