Hi Jeff,
>If you want to use VFP (COM or WWWC) then you can bet you'll pay a bundle for someone to host it. As it stands right now, you can get ASP hosting for free from brinkster.com.
This one depends on unknown information about the site he is planning, including the complexity of the app and the load (number of hits combined from all sites hosted on that server), and also the reliability of the ISP. Most people agree that sites that will get heavy traffic are much better off hosted on a dedicated server co-located at an ISP, anyway, so your site is not at the mercy of the other apps also running on the same machine.
>...I believe the MS Jet connectivity is automatic with ASP.
Dunno if it's automatic with ASP install, but I'm sure that every ISP offering ASP already has the Jet driver installed. Latest drivers would be included in the MDAC install, where VFP ODBC driver can also be found.
>The biggest benefit of going the VB route of course is the popularity of the product and adding it to your skillset. You'll get a lot more praise, recognition and acolades with a VB/ASP solution on your resume than anything VFP. This is a little sad but all too true.
Depends on who's looking at the resume, and whether or not they actually look at the sites you have built. Any possible negativity about VFP web solutions on the resume can be solved with customer testimonies and site performance statistics, for those who really want to know what you did.
