I was just kidding about using the shirt for cleanup tasks. My wife and I regularly give unused clothing and other household items we no longer need to Community Living, a local organization that sells donated items (similar to Good Will in the US) and uses the money for a variety of charitable purposes, including feeding and housing homeless or low-income families. In fact, they're making a pickup at our house today.
I agree completely with you that those of us who are advantaged economically should provide generously to those who aren't.
