Erik,
GetSystemDirectory() did return D:\WINNT\System32 and GetWindowsDirctory() returned D:\WINNT.
Damn, I hate these type of mysteries. I guess that I could always make the declaration with the whole path to the Windows System directory but it worries me that my machine is having this problem and not knowing what other problems I may be having without knowing it.

>>In looking in the Registry I see all references to shell32.dll that have a path have it as d:\winnt\system32\shell32.dll (or %System Root%\system32\).

>>The only things that strange (but I have no idea) is that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Applications\Shell32.dll the data shows "value not set". Also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Visual FoxPro.Application.6 under Shell\Open\Command it lists VFP6.exe.

>My Win2K machine shows the same settings in the registry. Did you try George's suggestion and check GetSystemDirectory? You can get the syntax from the API section here.
