Well, the WEND statement is a leftover from BASICA, I think, that was carried over. Hmm...dropped some backward compatibility. Actually, besides FOR...NEXT, VB also supports the following iteration structures:

' Pre-test
Do [{While | Until} condition]
[statements]
[Exit Do]
[statements]

Loop
' And Post-test
Do
[statements]
[Exit Do]
[statements]

Loop [{While | Until} condition]

While...Wend is strictly a holdover.
