You forget the files=... problem mentioned earlier.

You cannot set the files in the config.sys.
This file is only used for dos apps to read.
The actual value is stored in system.ini
< WorkAround>
1. Edit System.ini
2. Under the heading [386enh] add the line:
Files= the number of files you want - 32 since Windows ME will add 32 to
whatever number is there.

Change will take effect on reboot.
