>>>I am having a terrible time trying to figure out the best way to print letters in VFP 5.0. It seems that no matter what I try, (eg. Report Form, TextMerge, Word Mail Merge) I always run into some problem. I can't believe it is so hard to print a simple business letter from within VFP. Isn't there hundreds of companies out there that have this requirement? Anybody out there that has found a way to print form letters share your solution with me please? Thank you

>>Word was written in VB, but even the wonderful Office 97 version CAN'T USE A DBC!!! MS never ceases to amaze me.

>>Gene, I think the best way to get a sharp looking letter is to copy the necessary data from a table in your DBC to a free table and then mail merge from that table. You could write a simple app to do it without user intervention and then distribute it to anyone who needs the data. That way anyone can write a form letter in word and get data from the DBF.

>Thanks Matt, I will give that a try. Any way to tell VFP to print the mail merged document automatically after I create the free table? My client has asked me to print all these cover letters automatically while I am printing the reports (immedicately beforehand so they come out in the correct order).

I think there's OLE automation available for Word, but never having used it, I don't have the foggiest idea how to. Another idea that may or may not work...can you call an executable from within a macro in Word? Maybe the mail merge can be done with a macro that calls your export app first?
