So I need to be able to check that I am actually mapped to this D and use my reference drive letter to access data in the d:\data directory. If my pc is not mapped to the D drive in question I need to know that, map it, used the assigned drive letter to access data.

Mathias,

The Windows Script Host provides a method of mapping drives and I belive that Ed Rauh's NETRESOURCE class does this as well (requires his CLSHEAP). However, if this is a network environment, why not access the data via the UNC?
