I'm surprised too. However, it is new functionality for scatter/gather commands and seems used very rarely.

Anyway, you can't store an object reference in a table so this is more of a curiosity than a problem. I'm a little surprised GATHER doesn't throw a 'data type mismatch' error in the first place.
