A few months ago I wrote an article for Pinnacle's IS Consultant. It was titled, "Finding Clients: It's Not as Hard as You Think" and was published in their June 2000 issue. I don't know if you can still get that issue, but it's worth a try. If not, I have a few extra copies so send me your address in a private email and I will mail one to you.
Some of the suggestions it includes ...
- Combing through the classifieds for programmer ads. Even though a company advertises for an on-staff programmer, it doesn't mean they won't be open to using a consultant. Send a letter suggesting that they consider out-sourcing their work.
- Have a web page that lists your specialities, experience, services, etc.
- A small ad in the yellow-pages which lists your web site address. This allows you to pay for a small ad in the yellow-pages while using your web page to list all the great and wonderful things about yourself. This is much more cost-effective. But hurry on this one because the cut-off on advertising in next year's book may be real close.
Good Luck on the new endeavor,
Cathy
