Mike,
PMJI I stumbled onto a "File" problem when I discovered that Adaptec Easy CD was not putting my .scx .sct files onto a CD. Of course I blamed Adaptec and have an open incident with them. However the interesting thing is that if you put these [.scx .sct ]files into a winzip file and then extract them, voila, they act "normally". i.e. they will copy to a CD and behave like one has come to expect. Thread #416647 refers. I have reproduced this problem on W2K Pro and W2K Server, on NTFS and FAT16 partitions.
Seems like what we take for granted when "write cache" is disabled is not the full story. I recommend that all work be placed into a .zip file "often".
The problem files will copy to a floppy and will go onto tape without any apparent problem, but they seem to be vulnerable otherwise.
HTH
