I tried to create a report using a wide paper source by using the Page Layout/Printer Setup option in the report writer. The objective of this report form was to allow me to use a bigger font in the report so that the clients could read the report "preview". (This report requires a fixed font and 130 characters width.) Everything seemed to work fine and the report preview worked great until I installed the program on another machine. This is what happened, and if you can tell me why, you get the genious of the week award:

1. I installed the program on another computer, tried the report preview, and it came up showing a standard letter size report.

2. I assumed it may be trying to communicate with the driver I used while creating it (Epson FX-100). This driver was not on the new system, so I installed it. It still did not work.

3. I assumed that perhaps the Epson FX-100 driver needed to be configured to use the same paper size, so I set it to the 10x14 paper size in landscape mode (identical to the development system). It still did not work.

4. I set the Epson FX-100 as the default printer. Now it worked.

Now that I had it working, I needed to figure out what my clients would have to do...

5. I deleted the Epson FX-100 driver thinking that this would break it. It didn't, and my report preview still worked.

6. I assumed that perhaps the information had been stored in the Foxuser files, so I deleted my installation, and reinstalled. It still worked, using the old Foxuser files, and the original printer drivers (I.E., laser jet drivers as opposed to FX-100).

I suppose we could tell our clients that they have to install the Epson driver, configure it to use the right paper size, set it as the default, run through report preview, and then everything will work and they can do whatever they want with their drivers. Unfortunately this option sort of makes us look incompetent and doesn't say much for our package (which we sell as an "off the shelf" package.)

So my question is, between foxuser files and printer drivers, where is the information being stored regarding this printer driver/foxpro setup. How can I just make this feature work on my distributions?

Please help!!

Thanks in advance,
Paul Moon
