It's not an issue of name table entries. It has something to do with the internal structure of a VFP array variable's value entry. Like I said, I don't remember the exact reason for this, but there actually was a reason for it at one time. An array takes up only one name table index entry; the max number of elements in an array s unaffected by MVCOUNT in the CONFIG.FPW
