>Either answer will because we have ton of really old programs that user the environment variable user which are set by a novell login script. We were testing change to a Windows 2000 server and we found out the windows 2000 does not give you the same capability. We tried using a 3rd party thing that comes on the CD but it did not work. Novell set the environment variable somehow globally. It is the same as if you created an environment variable in the Autoexec.bat But we don't want to hard code the environment variable. We want it to be dynamic. We know there the username is in the registry so if there was a way we could get the 2.6 foxpro programs to read the registry that would also solve the problem. Any insights will be helpful.

In W2k go to My Computer - Properties on the Advanced tab you will find Environment Variables. This is only for the machine and/or user that they are set up for. If you need the server to "assign" environment variables to each user as they log in you can do this with login scripts in W2k. Its pretty easy to set up, just take a look in the help files.
