I have an application where I have to export data from an Excel spreadsheet to an ASCII text file for upload to a mainframe. The format if the ASCII file records are fixed length with no delimiters. They require that there be spaces between the last data element and the CR/LF at the end of the line.

The problem I am having is when I use Save As, the only text format that does not use a comma or TAB as a delimiter is "Formatted Text (Space Delimited) (*.prn)", however this format will not export the spaces if they are the last thing on the line. (NOTE: in the following examples, the quotes are used for illustration purposes only) For example, if I were to export this:

"XXX XXX"

it would export the two spaces in the middle without problem. However, if I were to export this:

"XXXXXX "

it would only export the 6 X's and ignore the two trailing spaces.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to resolve this problem? Or perhaps an alternate method of exporting an Excel 7.0 spreadsheet to an ASCII file?
