Stop it from being loaded. Use the Add/Remove New Software Wizard to Uninstall it.

Stop it from appearing. Start up Messenger, and create an account or log in an existing account. When it comes up, pick Tools/Options, the Preferences tab, and uncheck the box for appearing on the taskbar. it will not appear on either the systray or taskbar. It is still usable even if not on the taskbar or systray from the Start/Programs menu.
