my personal prejudice is to grab the info I need and release the source table, ( into a cursor or private table ), thus the recno() in my private table is valid, no nasty index to worry about!

When the data has to be updated, it is more complicated, but most of the time, I am selecting customer master records and preparing reports, last thing in the world I want is users sitting on customer master records, so doing it this way solves a lot of other issues ( like file & record lock conflicts! )
