I have a container class with a custom method. In the init of the container, it calls that method. It doesn't error, but it also doesn't appear to be running. Is this normal behaviour? Is there something that can be done about it?

That's not normal behavior. You should be able to call other methods from an Init. Are you sure it is not running? It might be worth sticking a breakpoint in there and tracing the program execution....
