Wow, Ed, you certainly know how to throw out the insults. I've been at this for quite some time, and know a thing or two about development. Since you responded to my post, I figured I would respond in kind.
I certainly understand the installation issues ( I've done a few). However, the issue is in regards to Crystal Reports enormouse requirements for getting up and running. You see, with one of my clients having over 500 workstations and 8 locations, it isn't practical to visit every workstation to do an install.
I have update routines which install OCX's via the registry all the time, and the point was that Crystal's requirements are much greater than your average control. If you are doing the small lan type development, it may be practical to rewrite your installation and visit each workstation. However, it is not practical in the enterprise. I have beening running one of our apps in the enterprise for over 7 years. Only twice have the administrators had to reinstall the app (once for the move to VFP 3.0 and once for VFP 6.0.) All other OCX and DLL installs are done via a class library I wrote to ensure files are up-to-date and registry entries are made. Your DOS copy may work for some, but not me (but that wasn't your point...it was to insult).
I guess now you will insult me and tell me that my clients need SMS ( they have it BTW). However, that was not the issue. Ed, if you makes you feel whole insulting others, go for it...just make sure you understand the facts...but then again, generally those who insult others only consider their viewpoint the right one anyway.
