Hi, Stan!
The main problem for MOST report writers is that data from VFP database could be used only through ODBC. This cause a lot of limitations, like you cannot use VFP programs and functions in report, VFP variables in report etc. This is not a problem for Crystal Reports, but you will need to make some tricks for many things that are easy to do with built-in VFP report writer.
There are many report writers for VFP reports, but of course, they are not so powerful as Crystal Reports.
>I would like some input regarding the best report writer to use with VFP6. I would appreciate hearing from those who have used two or more different products and have a good basis from which to compare them. I have heard that there are some problems with using Crystal Reports with VFP and would be interested in knowing what these are. TIA

It is not appropriate to say that question is "foolish". There could be only foolish answers. Everybody passed period of time when knows nothing about something.
