Databases,Tables, Views, Indexing and SQL syntax
Tommy;
I have some apps with VFP Databases with tables of over 1 Gig and they run queries with acceptable speed. Gee – that sounds subjective – but the client does not complain, which determines the success of any project. I will presume you have done everything to optimize your code. Do you recycle used records? Do you use a Deleted() Tag, etc.?
As for the server, how active is it? Have you monitored activity? How fast are the hard disks and how large? How much RAM? Speed of your network? Most important – how big are the average data sets your queries are returning?
Your system might just require a bit of fine tuning. Could you give an example of time to complete a typical query and the size of the dataset?
Tom
