Try running in "what broke today?" mode. :-) I'm not surprised that you've got issues. Still, though VS7 may have different issues on a daily basis, I haven't seen it hose previous versions. VC++6.0 continues to work for me no matter how wrong the VS7 install went. I'm not invalidating your experience, I'm just saying that VS7 problems seem to be isolated to VS7, from what I've seen.

As I've said before, I wouldn't
even begin to suggest installing it on a production machine. There are way too many system components that get installed in a VS7 install to risk a production machine.
