I still maintain an application that I wrote 12 years ago in 8031 Assembly. I wish it would die! Unfortunately, I don't want to drop the client because they send me a lot of small interesting projects and they always pay me a basic retainer fee to ensure that I will not drop the application.

It bothers me when they 'upgrade' one of my apps for no justified reasons but the feeling tends to go away quickly because I don't have a say in these decisions. A couple of words of advice:
(1) Never ask a question about the new app; the answers will only frustrate you.
(2) Never answer a question about thed app unless you get paid for it (unless it's employer that is rewriting the app). I usually charge a minimum of two hours for any topic they want to discuss.

Go out and have a beer, it will make you feel better. Moving to the States is financially rewarding but I do miss La Fin du Monde and La Maudite (from a Quebec micro-brewery).
