John,

>No word twisting here Erik. The fact is, I am discussing concepts that you clearly have not employed in practice. Therefore, I have decided that it would not be productive to continue this conversation. i.e., you are attempting to engage in an substantive discussion from the standpoint of relevant experience. At least, that is where I am coming from. If you can't meet me on those terms, there is nothing to discuss.

From all the crap, you're spouting out here, I (and I can guarrantee not only I), doubt that you have any experience in investigating alternatives that may work too. In our previous discussions you failed to take the standpoint of being objective. IOW you do only know the things that work for you !! You dont seem to have any clues about alternatives.

In my discussions with JimB about generating PKs, RI and DELETED() records, it became clear that Jim is promoting to use a certain strategy to write applications. That's fine as long as you don't object against other workable solutions as well. Conclusion to that story was that there were different solutions possible which work at least as well, maybe even better, But you've got to be aware that your solution might not be the only one, and therefore you should be carefull of what you preach. Many people have promoted the use of a DELETED() index tag. Well by now we now the story to that fairytail as well.

The most dangerous thing in programmers world is to apply certain techniques without knowing exactly why you use this technique over other alternatives. Just answering "Because others say so" is not enough, you must be convince yourself.

In holland there is a very famous football (soccer) player who says the following: Every disadvantage has it's advantage. This certainly applies to this whole discussion about RVs vs SPTs. This is the song Erik is trying to tell us, you fail to hear this song. With your cruisade you're attrackting people to use SPT exclusively. And that is absolutely wrong: Give them an objective list of the advantage and disadvantages or differences in properties and let them decide themselves. And don't let me hear: "There are no disadvantages of using SPTs !!"

The argument of breaking RVs when the datastructure changes is already discussed before. You failed to reconize the fact that is you construct your RV the right way it has no effect on the front-end when you add fields to it. The same argument can be made for SPTs.

So at least admit that you were wrong to this subject (breaking RVs). You seem to have a habit of not responding when your points seem to be wrong. It makes your integrity and knowledge very doubtfull at the least.

Walter,
