Thanks for your contribution. I read that thread and of course tried your findings as well, but I must say that I can't replicate them here.
(Though it's an ActiveX that may be a question of local longitude of course :-) )

With the version of that ActiveX (Version 6, I think it came with SP4) I use, I do still have the problem that the only "solid" way to distinguish a user's "Cancel" is the "provoking an error" method. The FileName property is only empty for sure, when no file was selected before canceling the action.

Ok, it seems I'll have to live with that then. :)

I just wrote a wrapper class that suits my needs following Doug Hennig's blueprint.
