Mike, the issue is reliability and security; the "WAN access", if it's something beyond an intermittent, closely physically controlled connect via something like PCAnyWhere, indicates that there are issues of security and privacy. Any idiot can get in and bypass the Win9x security model, I'd bet that password security and data protection in general are lax (how often do passwords change, how is outside access controlled, is there a firewall, is there regular, unattended backup done using multiple backup sets, do they know enough that if they leave a floppy disk in the A: drive and reboot, and the message that there's an unbootable disk in drive A:, press any key to continue, to reboot, not open random emails, etc.) and Murphy is well-aware that the best time to drop by is when least expected and really unprepared.

Again, YMMV< but I've been there, done that, and got the tee shirt often enough to not get caught flat-footed again.
