>Today it was announced that a foxpro application that I created in 1994 is being phased out. The kidney unit (who I still support a few hours per week) is moving to an Oracle-based database that is hosted over the internet. They were happy with the application, but they were required to move to the Oracle system because of a provinical mandate.

This year I had to personally carry out to scrap an AT&T Unix box that held the very first system I worked on for my current department. It was my first UNIX/Database job I ever had. We have sinced moved on to VFP and the web, but it still was a sad day for me to see that computer and all the dumb terminals get loaded on the truck and taken away.

One point of note. The computer was on and operational since 1991, there were only two major down times. One for OS/Hardware upgrade and one for a disk drive crash. The bottom line is that the system worked great, it just was getting too old. Time and technology marches on..... :(
