Tom - I appreciate your info on Atlanta - but actually ... well ... you see ...

I was born in Crawford Long hospital - spent early years in West End and later Ben Hill - My parents business throughout my whole life was in East Point - we later moved to Newnan where I lived until I graduated high school - I then went to Ga Tech - lived in Morrow, Union city and Jonesboro - until in my mid twenties I moved out west and then three years ago to here. I AM NOT A YANKEEEEEEE!!! <bg> born and raised in he south - in and around Atlanta. Most of my family is still there (I actually have a sister in law in Thomaston) - a lot of extended family in Albany.

all this - of course - is the main reason I want to get back. Atlanta is certainly a thought, although, I find NC/SC intriguing also.

thanks!

>One thing about Atlanta, however, is that a lot of the tech stuff in North and North east of the City. Some of the counties up there are not too bad and your commute would not be horrible. If you can aviod a downtown location you can do pretty well.

>You will enjoy the climate also. There is just enough of a winter to know that you've had one but it really does not snow much at all. You will laugh till you cry the first time it does snow.... 1/2 inch and the place comes to a stop! Anything more than 5 to 6 inches is considered a blizzard. The one problem that does happen more often is the ice. We tend to get rain first...then comes the frozen rain and then the snow. So you have to watch out for what we call black ice. Springs and Falls here are wonderful. The summer can be rough especially in August.. we call them the dog days.

>Don't believe everything you hear about the south. The metro area is like most metro areas. There is a great diversity of people and cultures. One thing you will notice for sure, however, is the pace. In the more rural areas there is one word to discribe it....slow!!! Of course, that can be good, and bad.

>You might also want to look at Charlotte N.C. It is generally rated a great place to live and you would not have the traffic and commute problems that you will have in the metro Atlanta area. There are a lot of financial institutions there.
>
>Anyway... I hope you make it. If you do come to the Atlanta area you will find that about 70% of the people are transplants from up north. I.E. Yankees. So you would feel right at home! < s >
