Im trying to use a database rather than free tables and would like to start my page with a blank record, let the user do a lookup- and then populate the fields with that record. I am using a view as the control source for the fields. Is there an easy way to do this or should I go back to free tables?

Path of least resistance might be to open the view up with the NoData clause. Your bound fields will be disabled and "greyed", you could keep the lookup control enabled, and on subsequent refreshes, requery the view without the NoData clause.
