m.UserName is created from the field, so say your field is 10 characters long. m.UserName will be too, even if it only says "Randall", it will really be "Randall   " with 3 spaces at the end.

So when you add more characters after the spaces, and try and stick it back in the 10 character field, its truncated back to "Randall   ".
