Since they had no hardware to begin with, they did not care. The price of the TM88-II printers are reasonable and competitive with most of what is available. Then when they looked at the price of a roll of receipt paper [about $3] versus a box of printer paper [$25 to $40], they figured the price difference between a receipt printer [$400] and a regular printer [$250] payed for itself after about 7 or 8 boxes of regular printer paper.

The biggest selling point is the print speed. A receipt printer spit out a receipt in about 3 seconds. A regular printer took at least 30 seconds per page. A laser printer about 10 to 15 seconds per page.
